The International Society for the Study of
Religion, Nature & Culture
The International Society for the Study of Religion, Nature and Culture (ISSRNC) is a community of scholars engaged in critical inquiry into the relationships among human beings and their diverse cultures, environments, religious beliefs and practices. The ISSRNC facilitates scholarly collaboration and research, and disseminates research findings through regular conferences and the affiliated
Journal for the Study of Religion, Nature, and Culture.
The international character of the organization is reflected in our membership; ISSRNC members are acknowledged experts in diverse subjects and focal areas, with deep knowledge of particular religions, cultures, geographies, and their environmental concerns. The
Board of Directors cordially invites all individuals interested in the scholarly investigation of the religion, nature and culture nexus to participate in ISSRNC activities.
The society has held two highly successful international meetings, one in April 2006 in Gainesville, Florida, the second in Morelia, Mexico, in January 2008, with participants from over forty countries. The society's third international conference is to be held in The Netherlands in July 2009, and planning has already begun on its fourth conference, which is likely to be in Australia in December 2010.
Since its inception in 2006 the society has grown steadily, reaching 116 members at the end of 2006 , 200 at the end of 2007, and 215 at the end of 2008. The Board of Directors cordially invites all individuals interested in the scholarly investigation of religion, nature, and culture to join and to participate in ISSRNC activities. Members not only enjoy a growing number of benefits, including the Society's quarterly journal: they also directly increase the profile and strength of this important and growing scholarly field, and help create further opportunities for Religion and Nature scholars.
The society also co-sponsors meetings with other scholarly organizations. A recent one, for example, was with the
Association for the Study of Esotericism, which had the theme
Esotericism, Religion, and Nature. The conference was held at College of Charleston, in Charleston, South Carolina (USA), May 29 - June 1, 2008. Society leaders welcome proposals for additoinal co-sponsored meetings.
The ISSRNC is recognized by the United States Internal Revenue Service as a 501(c)(3) charitable/educational organization.
Donations are tax deductible for many US taxpayers. The membership page has complete information as to how to donate to the society.
